Today we celebrate Independence Day as the United States of America! July 4, 2021 marks our country’s 245th birthday! For on this day in 1776 our founders adopted the Declaration of Independence – formally separating from Great Britain.
Family get-togethers. Fireworks and sparklers. BBQ’s and cookouts. Red, white and blue attire. Parades and festivals. Parks and long walks. Whatever you do and however you enjoy the day, for the American patriot, this is a wonderful day to celebrate our great country and the freedoms we have.
Independence Day is a day to remember and rejoice!
Yet, this marking of time and remembrance of a significant event can also point each of us who know the Lord to celebrate of another kind of freedom – a spiritual freedom – freedom from the power of sin and death!
Oh, the joy!
I remember 33 years ago when the Lord set me free. And for that and all His blessings, I’m eternally grateful to God.
For you and I as believers in Jesus, every day is a kind of Independence Day – a time to remember deliverance, freedom and all its associated privileges and responsibilities.
So with that, here are some scriptures on freedom to help us celebrate the magnificence of His mighty work on our behalf:
Isaiah 61:1 – “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me
To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;”
John 8:32, 36 – “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”
Acts 13:38-39 – Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through Him forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, and through Him everyone who believes is freed from all things, from which you could not be freed through the Law of Moses.
Romans 6:22 – But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life.
Romans 8:1-2 – There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
2 Corinthians 3:17 – Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
Galatians 5:13-14 – For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
Ephesians 3:12 – …in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through faith in Him.
May you and yours have enjoy a splendid Independence Day!
