Evangelism is a team thing. It is not exclusively a “God thing,” nor exclusively a “Me thing.” Evangelism is a “We thing.” Jesus, at the beginning of His ministry, said to His disciples “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19). At the end of His ministry, just before ascending to heaven He stated, “Go and make disciples of all nations…and I will be with you always.”
We, the Church, are called to do the work of evangelism, both collectively and individually. God uses all of our efforts in orchestrating the beautiful symphony of His redemptive plan!
As we close our series on prayer, Jesus taught His disciples a powerful prayer component of the Great Commission that applies to us today:
“The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” Matthew 9:35-38
The Lord calls them to ‘go’ witness in other gospel accounts, but here calls them to also pray for others who will ‘go.’ Because WE, as the body of Christ, are a team, with Jesus being the Head. And He is building His Church.
So pray for others to witness to lost people – those in your life and in their lives. Pray for missionaries as they work another part of God’s field. And pray for churches and ministries as they witness for Jesus.
Lord Jesus, send laborers into Your harvest and send each of us to also labor where you lead. Amen!
