🌾 The 49-Day Ascent: Preparing the Heart for the Promise

The Matzah is put away and the Passover Seder table is cleared—but the “Season of Our Freedom” isn’t over. In fact, it’s just getting started.

In the Jewish calendar, the end of Passover marks the beginning of Sefirat HaOmer (the Counting of the Omer). For 49 days, we count the journey from the Exodus toward the giving of the Torah—and ultimately, the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

Why does this matter for us today?

If Passover is about freedom FROM (bondage, sin, and death), then the journey toward Shavuot (Pentecost) is about freedom FOR.

  • Passover/Resurrection: Our deliverance is secured by the Lamb. The debt is paid. We are “out of Egypt.”
  • The Omer: A season of refinement. It’s the daily walk of sanctification where we learn to live like free people.
  • Shavuot/Pentecost: The empowerment. God didn’t just bring His people out to leave them in the desert; He brought us out to give us His Word and fill us with His Spirit to fulfill the Great Commission.

Living the Transition

We often want the “Mountaintop Experience” without the 49 days of walking in between. But the Omer reminds us that growth is daily, intentional, and sequential. We aren’t just waiting; we are preparing. It is a time to move from the shadowed outlines of the past into the vivid clarity of our walk with the Risen King.

“It was for freedom that Christ has set us free; therefore keep standing firm…” — Galatians 5:1

The takeaway: Don’t let the fire of the “High Season” fade into the “Ordinary.” Use this season to count your blessings, refine your character, and prepare your heart for the promise that lies ahead.

The Season of our Freedom never ends because our Deliverer is alive.
